Cycling can be both a means of transportation and a recreational activity, and there are many benefits to cycling, including exercise. In fact, cycling is ranked among the top exercises for improving cardiovascular health. As with all activities, in order to take full advantage of the benefits of cycling and avoid injury, manage the risks.

Bicycles are NOT Permitted in Buildings
The following Ontario Fire Code requirement is outlined in a memo from the Vice President Academic and Provost.
"Bicycles are not to be taken into or parked in campus building. The only exceptions are the storing of bicycles in areas specifically designated for this purpose located in the residence facilities and the UW Bike Centre in the Student Life Centre."
Departments administering buildings and UW Police are authorized to remove any bicycles found within campus buildings and not parked in outside bicycles racks.
Under uWaterloo's Traffic and Parking Regulations.
Section 9 "Bicycles shall be operated on roadways and pathways only and with due care and caution, in observance of all traffic regulations.
- Bicycles shall be parked only in bicycle racks."
Inline Skates (roller blades)/Skateboards
The use of inline skates (roller blades) and skateboards in campus buildings is considered as hazardous and therefore prohibited. Signs are posted at building entrances to this effect.
Under uWaterloo's Traffic and Parking Regulations.
Section 18 "Skateboards are prohibited on all campus roadways and pathways."
Section 19 "Roller skis and roller blades are prohibited on all campus roadways, pedestrian pathways and walkways, except during supervised training periods scheduled through the Kinesiology or Athletics department, and authorized by the Director of Police and Parking Services."
