The Environmental Safety Facility is open regular workdays

The entrance is located on the first floor of Earth Sciences and Chemistry Rm. 150 (Along the link between the Earth Sciences and Chemistry (ESC) building and the Environmental and Information Technology (EIT) building). No more than 6 items should be brought down to the facility at any one time. If a lab wishes to get rid of more than this at any one time then they should contact Greg Friday at ext. 35755 to make arrangements for receival outside the regular operating hours. Since the facility is open daily there should be no chemical waste stored in a laboratory for a period of more than one month.
The Environmental Safety Facility (Pharmacy) is only open for receiving waste on Thursday afternoons. If Thursday is a holiday then the waste drop-off day will be determined ahead of time and the appropriate parties will be notified.

The Environmental Safety Facility (E6) is open for receiving waste on Tuesday afternoons.
Note: Waste brought down to the facility will need to be classified by the person bringing the waste down (flammable/acid/base/toxic/oxidizer/air/water-reactive)

The entrance is located on the first floor of DWE Rm. 1510 (Next to receiving area).
Please call Greg Friday at ext. 35755 or ext. 21339 to make arrangements for a lab clean-out. This would include the disposal of 6 or more chemical bottles at any one time.
Waste is to be packaged and labeled as described in the page titled Packaging Instructions.
Unknown substances will be accepted
(an account number is required for classification of unknown). It is advisable to try to identify any unknowns based on work that is done in the lab before submitting to the ESF
Hazardous waste that cannot be delivered to the Environmental Safety Facility will be collected Tuesday afternoons. Arrange for collection from other buildings by calling x35755 by noon Tuesday. A time and location will be then be set-up for hazardous waste pick-up. Pack according to instructions given in the table titled Packaging Instructions.
Hazardous materials left unattended will not be collected. You must be present when handing over hazardous materials to the technician.
Hazardous waste must not be sent to the waste facility by inter-office mail.
(i.e. batteries, chemicals, radioactive or bio-waste)
Batteries need to be segregated into lithium and "other", other referring to nickel-cadmium, alkaline, nickel-metal hydride, lead, mercury. Rechargeable cellphones and rechargeable batteries can be brought to Techworx (South campus Hall), the Campus Tech Shop (lower level Student Life Center) or the ESF for recycling under the Call-2-Recycle program. Waste from home cannot be accepted at the Environmental Safety Facility but may be disposed of at the Waterloo Region Waste Management Division Services.
