Christmas Trees Standard

1.   Trees

Natural trees

  • Select a fresh tree
  • Keep tree outside until ready to decorate
  • Cut trunk straight one inch above original cut
  • Place tree in firm stand and submerge trunk butt in water
  • Keep water reservoir full
  • Remove tree before Christmas holidays
 

Artificial trees

  • Ensure it is labelled as being flame-retardant
  • If metallic, do not use any type of electrical decorations or devices

 

2.    Do not use candles on or near the tree.

3.    Locate tree away from heating sources such as registers and radiators.

4.    Ensure tree does not block or restrict aisles, stairs or exits.

5.    Use only CSA approved miniature lights and extension cords.    

6.    Inspect wiring carefully and use only three sets of lights on an extension cord. 

7.    Turn off all decorative lights before leaving the area for the night.

8.    Minimize accumulation of combustible materials under the tree.
