When the employee records that the Safety Office maintained were transferred over to the new system we implemented a 5 year cut-off. If you haven't taken WHMIS training in the last 5 years you will have to take it again. This is to ensure that UW employees maintain their knowledge of WHMIS so that they work with hazardous materials without endagering their own safety or the safety of others around them. WHMIS training is now offered online and can be found here (you will need to enter your UW userID and password). Upon completion of the online WHMIS session your training records will automatically be updated within 24 hours.
No, student records are completely seperate and they are not transferred. You will need to take the online WHMIS training that was designed for staff which includes information that was not contained in the student version of the WHMIS training.
Yes, UW has a legal responsibility to ensure that all staff that work with or in proximity to hazardous materials receive WHMIS training. UW's WHMIS training has been designed specifically for UW and contains information that is specific to UW that you will not have received at a former employer.
First aid certification is only valid for 3 years. Expired certificates were not transferred to the new system.
This indicates that you have no entries in your record. If you took WHMIS more than 5 years ago and/or your first aid certificate has expired your record will be empty. "Attending" shows on your record because the software will not show a blank record and by default it displays the first item in the status list, which is "Attending". Call it a quirk of Peoplesoft.
Currently only WHMIS and first aid training data have been added. Other safety related training you have taken will be added in the next few months. Only safety related training that you have received or has been arranged through the Safety Office will be recorded.
